Sustainable Biomass Charcoal Production Program (SBCPP)

Our Sustainable Biomass Charcoal Production Program is a certification scheme designed to ensure that biomass products, including charcoal, is sourced legally and sustainably. The program focuses on the legality and sustainability aspects of the feedstock used in biomass production. It utilizes a unique Data Transfer System to track woody biomass transactions along the supply chain, enabling life-cycle greenhouse gas emissions calculations. The program aims to strengthen its proposition as the global biomass certification scheme of choice, addressing opportunities within and beyond woody feedstocks and the energy sector.

Program Details & components

Our SBCPP program is a hands-on charcoal production program, this program involves training in sustainable production methods, including raw material preparation, kiln operation, and harvesting. These program cover practical skills like chainsaw operation, building of modern brick kilns, environmental regulations, and health and safety, integrating business management and entrepreneurship principles, and focus on specific materials like traditional earth mound brick kilns for charcoal carbonization processing.
